Day 1
(July 8) Arrive ferry terminal 12:00 pm; nap in car. Depart Auke
Bay 3:00 pm, stake out the after lounge. Eat dinner in cafeteria;
arrive Skagway 9:30 pm. Camp at Dyea.
Day 2 (July 9)
Drive to Skagway, then Carcross; walk around Carcross and through the
Carcross dunes; eat ice cream. Drive the Tagish Road onto the
Atlin Road; hike up a knoll overlooking Snafu Lake to camp.
Surrounded by courting common nighthawks at dusk; loons call on the
lake; bald eagle perches nearby.

Day 3 (July 10)
Drive Atlin Road to the Alcan and on to Whitehorse; lunch in
Whitehorse, then the Beringia museum. Drive through Haines
Junction and camp at Million Dollar Falls campground.
Thunderstorm hits while approaching campground; close thunder and hail;
sheltered in car to let it pass before pitching tent. Passed two
black bears on the side of the road eating dandilions on the Haines
Highway.

Day 4 (July 11)
Drive the Haines Highway; drive through Klukwan; lunch in Haines.
Visit the American Bald Eagle Foundation (and Gary the raven); relax at
a park near the water. Depart Haines 8:30; arrive Juneau 12:30 am.
